She Recovers Sharing Circle Starts in Cape Coral

Back in 2013 when I was living in Cancun, Mexico and getting sober, I endlessly searched the internet for resources that might help me. At that time there weren’t many blogs, online recovery groups, or classes and courses you could take to help get sober. What I did find was the She Recovers Facebook Page, that we all know, has now blossomed into a foundation that is home to retreats, conferences, a yoga program, recovery coaching, and most recently, sharing circles.

As soon as I found She Recovers I felt home. The page had a calming vibe, uplifting quotes about healing and recovery, and the language that they used was all-inclusive and comforting. There was no program-speak and I didn’t feel lost, the way I did when I read and heard about AA. I have enjoyed being a part of the She Recovers community as a fan, follower, supporter, writer, and now a She Recovers Coach Designate.

As I strive to help more people and provide new resources to people who are in, or curious about sobriety, I’ve decided to start a She Recovers Sharing Circle local to my community.

What I’ve learned over the years is that while finding sober help online is invaluable, nothing can replace face-to-face sober connection. That’s why AA meetings are so powerful. That’s why She Recovers conferences and events have been so popular and important. That’s why recovery retreats exist. At the end of the day we all want a warm embrace and someone looking us in the eyes telling us, “everything is going to be ok.” For women who might not be able to attend a retreat, conference, or do not resonate with AA, or other types of recovery meetings, She Recovers Sharing Circles now exist.

Our first She Recovers Sharing Circle in Cape Coral will be held on May 12, 2019 at 6pm at the Center for Spiritual Living. Our sharing circle is a safe place for self-identified women to come and talk about challenges in their lives, receive support, and connect with others who have, or have had, similar experiences. We hope to provide a place where women feel seen, heard, accepted, and uplifted.

Our May monthly topic will be: Celebrating our strengths. We will have a sign-in sheet and we ask for a recommended contribution of $5-$10, but we will not turn anyone away who might not be able to contribute.

This Sharing Circle is for any self-identified woman who is in, or curious about, recovery from substances, eating disorders, grief, codependency, emotional or physical abuse, trauma, depression, low self-esteem, perfectionism, & more. You do NOT need to consider yourself to be “sober” to attend.

If you’re interested in this new recovery meeting, please join our Facebook group here.
